Ive been trying for the last 20 minutes to try get this on, i have pinched the rings and it looks like they should fit but they simply don’t when i try put the head and sleeve over the piston. Any suggestions on what i can do?

You likely need to get the rings to compress a little further. One trick that sometimes works is to use a worm drive hose clamp to compress the rings. It can be a bit tricky getting the tension right as it has to compress them enough to help get them in, but not so tight as to not allow it to slide down out of the way. Once the rings are installed you simple back off the screw until the hose clamp opens up completely. Just make sure the ring ends stay centered on their respective pins when tightening things up.

Be a little liberal with some 2 stroke oil as well to help prevent damage and to make things slide easier. Otherwise, just have patience. Sometimes it can be annoying and things just don't want to go easy. Don't force anything. That is when stuff breaks.

Make sure the rings are positioned over the pins in the ring groove properly before trying to put the cylinder on. Once the rings are centered you probably can just give it a rap with your hand and it will jump over the rings.
Plus, make sure those pins in the ring grooves are on the intake side.

Hi, I'm new here!

Make sure the studs are on first then lower the jug over the piston until it will go no farther. In the bottom of the jug are two cut-outs for this purpose; thumb in the front one (actually side of the engine) index in the back, then squeeze the ring and wiggle the jug over it, then repeat for the second ring. I used to struggle also, but when I started doing it like this, I never had a problem installing a cylinder. Remember, some pistons have notches, so the ring only goes on in one position.

Welcome. You sound like you know a thing or two. Why haven't you been here earlier? It's always good to have people to bounce an idea off of.

Thanks, all! Used to have a Swedish lawnmower (whaaat?) with a similar style 2-stroke. I just found out not long ago you can put one on a bike, so I rebuilt and painted my 87 General and put a China doll on it. Still breaking her but I got to 30 MPH (I'm 100 lbs soaking wet). I'll make a post with pics if anyone is interested, but that's enough thread hijacking for now lol.

I'm curious if OP has installed his jug yet...

Edit: "The Nuke City" never heard that one; that's a good one! Trinity Site would be a fun ride (in fall)!

Make a thread of your own, show your bike. We're all interested to see what everyone else has done.

Is that all the mechanical experience you've had? Just curious.
