Greetings from the General!

but those pretty lights function as a second kill switch; need the extra coil. In NM all bicycles need to have a headlamp and rear reflector if riding at night (MVD classes ours as mere "bicycles" not "mopeds").
You are of course referring to this...lol.

Chapter 18 – Other “Vehicles”

Section E. Motorized Bicycles
Revised November 30, 2017

Motorized Bicycles are not considered to be mopeds or motorcycles.

By current MVD practice, motorized bicycles are considered to be bicycles (not mopeds or motorcycles) and are not subject to the titling and registration requirements of the Motor Vehicle Code.

Section D. Bicycles
Revised November 30, 2017

Bicycle defined (§66-1-4.2(A))

A bicycle is a device propelled by human power upon which any person may ride, having two tandem wheels, except scooters and similar devices.

Traffic laws apply to bicycles (§66-3-702)

Every person riding a bicycle upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle, except as noted below.

Ridng bicycles on roads or bicycle paths (§66-3-705)

1. Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable, exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction.

2. Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than two abreast except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles.

3. Notwithstanding any provision of this section, no bicycle shall be operated on any roadway in a manner that would create a public safety hazard.

??Lamps and other equipment (§66-3-707)

1. Every bicycle when in use at nighttime shall be equipped with a lamp on the front which shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front and with a red reflector on the rear of a type approved by the division which shall be visible from all distances from fifty feet to three hundred feet to the rear when directly in front of lawful upper beams of head lamps on a motor vehicle. A lamp emitting a red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear may be used in addition to the red reflector.

2. No person shall operate a bicycle unless it is equipped with a bell or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of at least one hundred feet, except that a bicycle shall not be equipped with, nor shall any person use upon a bicycle any siren or whistle.
3. Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake which will enable the operator to make the brake wheels skid on dry, level, clean pavement.
The Motor Vehicle Division is neither required nor authorized to title or register bicycles.

Here are the lights I have been using for years now...The magneto's on these things even if you amplify it for the lights are just not that good, this is why I use what I use for lighting.

And extra red lights for side markers and two additional lights on the rear.

That's the one (ones).

That's a nice set-up; it complies with the first two paragraphs of §66-3-707. Mine is just a cheapo 6v 3W dynamo set I plan to hook to this coil:
6-Volt Generator | eBay
Heard good things about it. Don't worry, I will trash the white wire. I may one day put a battery and convert to DC. This same seller makes a very good 6- and 12-volt charger specifically for our bikes (I'm sure you're aware though).

I plan to just pull open the throttle and say "there's my 'other audible warning device', officer".

For anyone interested, here is an interactive schematic of the AC lighting circuit. I haven't installed a mag coil (no power) or a diode dimmer switch yet, and I'm not sure yet if the dimmer is necessary. Also, ignore the DC components and battery for now; they don't exist yet.

for your lights just get a drill battery(and the charger the comes with it) open the battery and solder the positive and negatives

if you add a switch then you can turn on and off the lights, this way you can turn off and charge the battery :)

what i did i got a multi switch made for bicycles that has lights on off and left right switch for turn signals

I plan to use a dpst non-momentary 3-position key switch. Acc for the lamps, On for the CDI.
Cool bike!
Thanks!:giggle:
No laptop or phone? :p
I don't blame him. New Mexicans "love the sun but celebrate the storm!" Plus New Mexico monsoons can be a bit violent during the rainy season.

Lol yeah, it was the only "washer" I had at the time. It holds like a champ though and would give a wheel thief a heck of a hard time. I never replaced it and now I guess it is part of the bike's "character".

At least ya got plenty of strike plates through out your house to add some more character to your bike.
But pretty soon your doors wont stay closed, But at least your bike will have tons of character :ROFLMAO:
