Gas tank sealer

Wondering whether or not to put POR15 into my brand new, never used 1.5l tank, kit came from Monsterscooterparts, there are no visible problems - no audible ones, either, nothing rattled or fell out of the tank when I shook it and turned it upside down, not even dust.
Flashlight inspection also ok. I did not Hulk out when fastening the tank to the top tube and I even put a section of old innertube as a cushion under it.
On the one hand, I don't want to use yet nuddah chemical if I don't absolutely have to, on the other hand, a leaky tank would really suck.
What do you guys think ?

If your tank is new, why would you want to? I've never had very good success with POR15, the ethanol does something to it. I'd be scared of it leaching off and going through the engine.

Solving a problem that doesn't exist is a sure way to create a problem.

If you are truly concerned about a leaking tank you can fill it with mineral spirits and let it sit to see if any leaks surface and then go from there. When done simply drain the tank back out and reuse said spirits for other projects later. This will also serve to flush possible particles and other unwanted things out of the tank in the process.

I've never had a problem with new "kit" tanks. (Knock on wood...)

That's kinda what I was thinking, maybe I read too many horror stories - most of which seem to involve kits bought off Fleabay.

Oh those tanks do have their own little terrors to them. The seams not sealed and studs that have poor welding, but you don't needlessly add something to a good one. I'd be more inclined to send it back if it leaked.

Update: Noticed a tiny bit of 'sweating' right where the outlet leaves the tank - ABOVE the threads - too little to be called a leak, applied some SteelStik to the area, seems to have worked for now.
