I give up: re-installing the cam and gear on the NE5

I tried it but I put it back in the original position. Bike runs fine with the strike plate in the original position, @17*

Some people think advancing the strike plate to 23* is gonna make a world of difference but it don't on these bikes

Maybe if ya got a engine that will go 60+ mph it will help but it's not necessary on an almost stock engine

My engine is basically almost stock and goes 50mph with the strike plate @ 17* and moving it to 23* didn't make a diff

It's an issue some will argue about

11:50 pm EDIT: This post was a reply to Risk Man, he asked me a question about the Strike Plate IDK why he delete his post
Sorry, I deleted in error and then asked the question again in PM. Was a bit off topic. But good information here. I was going by two articles from Quenton that suggested all WCI and NE-5 engines be advanced for a 4-6 MPH potential improvement including "easier starting, smoother idling and increased performance". He does mention that results will vary.

Now ya make me curious one more time, since I already got the hole drilled and tapped in the flywheel to move it to 23*
I'll try it again

4-6 MPH is huge.

My bike already starts on the first kick Idles smooth and she's got good performance at 17* and top speed is 50 mph
If I hit 55 mph I'll be a believer

OK I moved the strike plate to 23*

Went around the block a few times and climbed a hill Honestly I can't see any difference.
I sure didn't notice a surge of a 4-6 mph increase.

I'm gonna leave it at 23* because it's popular again LOL
Now I got the bragging rights of advancing the timing to 23* to go 4-6 mph faster :ROFLMAO:

I give my final review after a I go for a 25 mile ride on my usual route thru the country.

As you can see by my pic I need to get another counter sink screw for my strike plate I almost striped the head when I moved the plate
I think I put loctite on the threads before (12 years ago) because I had to heat it with a torch to get that screw out and I could see the remains of old loctite in the hole

I reread Quentons claims and He claims speeds of 40 MPH when moving the strike plate to 23* on a stock engine
IMO that's how fast the bike goes anyways with the strike plate at 17*
Of course 40mph wont be a possibility unless ya open up the stock intake restriction plate and advance the cam one tooth counterclockwise.

Speed improvements come from a good valve job bigger port and a shaved head
Then you'll see speeds of 45 - 50 with stock valves

Of course there are a few other things involved, but not worth mentioning at this time
