Gearbox bearings......

All right so I think I'm going to buy the 4G but it says that it only works on I think ,what -it's a tapered shaft engine?
Now I know the 142f has both a tapered and untapered shaft so how do I find out which one I have because I don't know and I'm pretty sure I read on here that there's no way to tell by just looking at it even if there's like another thread or something just point me in the right direction
Because I definitely can only afford to buy once
Take a picture of the engines crankshaft on the engine you wanting to use. It's easy to tell whether you got a tapered shaft engine or a early 5/8"straight shaft engine.

I'm talking next to the engine block. Is the shaft smaller there than 5/8?
Here is a pic of a 142f with a tapered shaft, with the clutch still installed. You could machine a straight shaft crankshaft into a tapered shaft crankshaft with the right equipment.

To answer sidewinder I did not get discover what I have cuz I'm not at but looking at this picture I think that this is the same engine that I have well I have two four-stroke engines and they're both the same as this they have the same marking on the side that says 1306. Now the newer engine that I bought has that same clutch in it but the engine that's on my Seattle has a different clutch it's like way heavy duty or looks way heavy duty anyway it takes my big butt up hills when the transmission works the right way.
Now I'll be honest I put many many miles on that Seattle before I had any type of problems like few hundred miles. My stepson who hates my guts stuck like a screwdriver up into the gearbox and I didn't see it as I drove away and I think like I caught up in the gears and spit it out so I stopped that's when I started having transmission problems but I took it apart yesterday as you seen from my post and I noticed that one bearing was like completely well it wasn't even there you know the inner part of it was on the post and the outside was there and the one race was there but there were no balls inside or anything
