Gearbox bearings......

Basically what I'm thinking is the engine manufacturing plant took their remaining straight shaft crankshafts & machined them to tapered shaft crankshafts. I believe the 142f straight shaft engines & the 142f tapered shaft engines use the same crankshaft seal.

Be nice to discover if the taper starts at 5/8". Would be much easier to convert an entry hole than convert a shaft. I don't know if you could put a 142 shaft into the Honda.

I've read that all honda parts from gxh-50 will fit into a 142f engine. Now if a had both in front of me I could find out for sure.
 
The 142f tapered shaft engine is 12mm at the start of the taper & close to 16mm at the widest part of crank towards the crankshaft seal.

16mm is around 5/8" thanks. So to use an old Honda or old 142 with the 4G, you have to switch out to a tapered shaft or flat dill out the entry hole on the gearbox.
 
If you had a lathe, & removed your crankshaft from a honda gxh-50 straight shaft crank. You could machine a straight shaft crankshaft to a tapered shaft crankshaft. Same goes for the 142f straight shaft engine. But the straight shaft crank would have to be shortened & then the taper would to machined.

I've got a small drill press an electric viable speed drill can fit into. Even a hobby lathe will cost around $200. A flat bottom drill bit is less than $10
