new cylinder design
I am thinking that Noah is correct as I see no change in the actual cylinder design based on their pics, It is more probable that the manufacturer is just doing a better fit and finish by cleaning up the port edging and anything else that the rings could possibly get snagged on.I don't think the cylinder design has much to do with the ring snags as much as it is the failure to clean up the port edges and having a sharp lip that the rings get snagged on.
The intake and exhaust ports are still the same size as they have always been even though the advertisement says,
The exhaust port size on their ad is still 28mm...The word Optimizing, I'm still betting its just a decent cleanup from the casting process that should have been done from the very beginning of the Phantom 85 release along with the needle bearing rather than that pathetic bushing they originally came out with...lol.optimizing the size of the intake and transfer ports to deliver maximum power
I do know that when I received my replacement motor on warranty, that the ports etc were very clean in comparison to the original motor cylinder even though I didn't have a ring snagging problem that made my first one fail, as I had cleaned up the ports which didn't take much time or effort before installing the original motor.
I'm hoping that they have finally got it right this time around as I am more than pleased with my replacement at this time as I know that once it IS right, it will be the best out of the box motor of the China Girl variety that could be had for the price.
