This is related to my other thread about my new job and how I was considering an ebike as a means to get to work for the nicer parts of the year. The issue is, the one ebike I really like is 1700 bucks, and while I could afford it, it's also not quite practical for me at the moment.

My other option was to either make some changes to my Hawk 250 and use it as a commuter, or maybe sell it and.pick up a cheap Chinese gy6 scooter.
This is my Hawk for those curious.

This has some benefits, outside of the short trip to work, but I still like the idea of an electric bike, because I am that way lol.

So, I have been thinking (always dangerous) about using my current phantom powered Kent Nazz as an ebike platform, and transferring the gas bike stuff over to a 26 inch cruiser frame like the Hyper that Damien and Frizzle are both using, or maybe spending a bit more and getting a sixthreezero "aroundtheblock" single speed.

This would work out for a couple.of reasons. 1, I already would need and have been thinking about a second bike anyway. I can transfer almost everything over that is needed, and the 26 inch wheels will help put my gearing to a more reasonable level.
2. There are heavier duty wheels available off the shelf in 26 inch sizes.
3. Everything about the Nazz is basically ready to go for ebike setup. I can simply install a bafang mid drive and battery and be ready to go.

My only complaint about the Bafang bbshd mid drive kit is the cost. It's a steep entry fee. I know.it is worth it, but hub motor setups are 60% the price at the same power.

I have been loving my Hyper, best frame I have found yet for a decent price.

It has been handling the P85 beautifully, even better than I ever expected.

You are one of the reasons I have been looking at it. It may not have a ton of fearures, but it is a solid frame to start from, and that's fine with me. I would at least want a front disc brake and a set of HD wheels. Rear disc would be nice, but I would also be ok with rim out back if I had to.

I mainly want to put that 36 tooth sprocket on a 26 inch wheel. I wanted to run a 40 on my Nazz, but it makes the rear disc an issue, and converting to rim brake isn't viable Due to the mags now, but I also simply can't find a rear rim brake that works. I have tried a.few different options and they are all either just a hair too long, or a bit too short. The length is really goofy from the mount to the rim.

Here is the Hawk by the way. More or less still looks the same.

Speaking of wheels. I did come across these. Kind of curious to try them. I know Gemini wheels are far superior, but they are also more than double the price, rarely in stock, and require a long wait. May give these a whirl. I can order them with the bike lol

I take it your not possibly considering the three spoke mags like what I use then???

I now have over 1600 trouble free miles on those mags, Bell Kevlar tires and the ultra thick Slime tubes...so far, so very good, even with the bikes weight of 80 or 90 pounds and my fat butt at 217 pds straddled across it...lol.

I did consider those too. Just not a big 3 spoke design fan lol

Those "fans" do nothing to cool you or the motor either...lol.

Yes that was a pathetic play on words...lol.
I would still rock them as I do like not having to play around with spokes. I just wish they had a better option for strength.

The big appeal of the wheels I linked are mainly the fact that they use roller bearings and the brake rotor mount points. I hold no illusions that they are going to be super strong like a pair of Gemini wheels. They would at least be better than the standard stuff that came on it.

Total cost of the bike just to get it ready for all of my motorizing stuff is going to be around $500. If I got those wheels I linked with the bike and a small discount I am looking at 280 bucks. The front fork similar to the one Frizzle used, a rear caliper adapter, and the brakes is about another 200.

On the plus side, I would just need tires at that point and to figure out a front mount and exhaust brace. So maybe another 100 on top.
