This is related to my other thread about my new job and how I was considering an ebike as a means to get to work for the nicer parts of the year. The issue is, the one ebike I really like is 1700 bucks, and while I could afford it, it's also not quite practical for me at the moment.
My other option was to either make some changes to my Hawk 250 and use it as a commuter, or maybe sell it and.pick up a cheap Chinese gy6 scooter.
This is my Hawk for those curious.
This has some benefits, outside of the short trip to work, but I still like the idea of an electric bike, because I am that way lol.
So, I have been thinking (always dangerous) about using my current phantom powered Kent Nazz as an ebike platform, and transferring the gas bike stuff over to a 26 inch cruiser frame like the Hyper that Damien and Frizzle are both using, or maybe spending a bit more and getting a sixthreezero "aroundtheblock" single speed.
This would work out for a couple.of reasons. 1, I already would need and have been thinking about a second bike anyway. I can transfer almost everything over that is needed, and the 26 inch wheels will help put my gearing to a more reasonable level.
2. There are heavier duty wheels available off the shelf in 26 inch sizes.
3. Everything about the Nazz is basically ready to go for ebike setup. I can simply install a bafang mid drive and battery and be ready to go.
My only complaint about the Bafang bbshd mid drive kit is the cost. It's a steep entry fee. I know.it is worth it, but hub motor setups are 60% the price at the same power.
