I am not new to this forum but this is the first time I have posted anything.

Found an unused NE5 engine on line and bought it, maybe I payed too much but I don't think so at about $800 including shipping. The seller said he ran it for 10 minutes. Is it a collectors item or a clean slate? I have two NE5's I bought new, pulled from the pallets and assembled. One has 345 miles and the other has 102. One bike is red, my first one, and the second is back. Maybe Ill post some pictures later.

Anyway. Here are some pictures of the engine I bought. This set of the pictures is from the seller.

Here are some pictures I took after I received it. It was run but not for long. I wiped the cylinder and the head with a dry paper towel.

I ask again, do I save it or do I build it and use it?

I don't know much about values of whizzers, but I would love to build a bike with a whizzer engine.

Checkout eCrater and search wc1manufacturer. I'm testing it out now. Just bought an inexpensive part, fork dust seal set. If this purchase turns out fine I'll by more spare parts. They have a complete engine kit with everything you need, but its an NEr or Cruzzer engine not an NE5. It would work.

It looks like it's a 2\1 internal reduction

I was wondering who was gonna cough up the $$$ for that Engine on E Bay, It's not rare, Use it
I wouldn't trust that the piston rings are clocked correctly, I would check before using it.

At least the Cam Gear Timing Dot has been advanced one tooth counterclockwise, which is correct

Looking at the RH crank bearing race you got a 2007 NE-5 It uses 6904 bearing in the RH side cover
Earlier models 1999-2006 had a HK2012 Needle bearing,
Don't worry the 6904 bearing is better

Someone polished the protective coating off the cast iron flywheel so it would be shinny, Paint it or it's gonna rust

If that Cyl isn't painted with High temp BBQ paint you'll know soon enough, It'll burn off

BTW if ya need parts www.whizzercruzzerparts.com/shop/

Fork Dust Wipers from WC1 manufacture won't fit the WC-1 or the NE-5 their for the NER which has a larger DIA fork tubes

These Dust Wipers will fit the NE-5 or the WC-1

Thankyou! I have been reading yours and Quentons posts. I figure I can build a pretty solid engine with all the information you have provided.

I'm 100% sure now that I will be soda blasting the coating from the jug.

I am going to be replacing the crank bearing and adding the shims as suggested in one of your posts.

I do have a question. I have been using Joe Lin's new style auto clutches. Can these new auto clutches be reliable with frequent preventive maintenance?

I was active duty military back in 2013 to 2019 when I joined this forum and I am now retired. Back then I was able to talk to Quenton and tried to get a couple of clutches and some lifters, lack of time due to deployments prevented me from acquiring those items. I'm looking into, and may attempt improving these parts myself with all the information I have found here. I will keep up the search but not expecting much.

Grease the oneway bearing with a dab of molly & general purpose grease mix, then check every 1K miles

As far as how good they are IDK you'll have to run it and find out, I use the Auto Clutch from Whizzer USA 2005-2006
There have been reports that the center shaft on the new style clutch is not hardened properly and the oneway bearing eats into the center shaft, This is the same issue these clutch have always had since 2005 , but some are hardened properly to Rockwell 57
Quenton fixed many of the 2005-2006 auto clutches by replacing the center shaft with a Rockwell 57 hardened shaft,
That's what I got
Quenton says the new style clutch center shaft cant be replaced but it can be heat treated and re hardened
I suggest if your clutch fails Contact Quenton as he is already has rehardened the center shaft on many of the new style auto clutch

If you buy from Paul @ www.whizzercruzzerparts.com it has a 1 year warranty
Taiwan WC-1 manufacture no longer sells in the USA due to shipping costs
Buy your parts from Paul he has an large inventory and is the only one who gets shipments from Taiwan

I have done long term testing on both style cranks end play 1999-2006 and 2007-2009

For the 2007 engine you just bought with the 6904 bearing and side cover
After long term testing I've found that it's better just to put a 1mm shim behind the 6904 bearing in the RH sidecover
and no shim on the LH side behind the 6205

Pic of 1mm shim behind the 6904

Engines 1999-2006 changing RH sidecovers from a Needle Bearing HK2012 to an Open Bearing 6904
After long term testing I've found it's better and easier to make the Spacer/Shim 4mm instead of 3.5mm
and put no .016" shim behind the LH 6205 bearing

Make it 4mm instead of 3.5mm

Or you can always change cranks to a 2007-2009 or present Cruzzer that uses the 6904 bearing

IF I've just confused you :ROFLMAO: Just ask me again with pics of what your doing I'll be happy to clear up any misunderstandings

www.whizzercruzzerparts.com, Paul can get you lifters and he only has has the new style Cruzzer Clutch

Quenton is still active, Contact him about Auto Clutch and get his opinion
If ya need his Phone# just ask I'll get it for ya
