Solid bicycle rims?

A lot of members have wheel problems, especially rear wheels. We are most adult sized folks so add that to bicycles going several times faster than they were intended with stresses that were not entered into the equation and we end up with rear wheel failures. Yes this is stating the obvious but not what it's about. Are there any skilled members out there who have built or have considered making a solid style 26" rim? Cnc'd or welded or something that would handle the stresses we put our bikes under. Any thoughts or ideas on this guys?:-/

Cheapest solution is the 12gx36 spoked rear aluminum rimmed wheel from GEBE for $109+ship.
Staton has a 12gx48 spoked steel rear rim for about $185+ship and it comes with a kill-proof 4 sealed bearing hub. Of the two the Staton would be my choice for over-kill. Wadda'ya weigh? 400# :D
Staton has a plastic solid spoked 20" wheel. Meh...It is fitted to take their drive sproket.

Do what I did years ago. Practice building on a junk wheel. Then go for it using quality rims and spokes, like DT or WheelSmith.

Thanks Pete, I have a staton heavy duty and worksman 12ga 36spoke already which work fine... was testing the waters for anyone who has built their own custom wheels. I visited a custom bicycle website where some folks had built their own and a site that sold cnc custom wheels for exorbitant amounts of money. I realize they're out there for purchase but can a regular joe learn to build one for himself is my query.

I built 4 of this, wood spook 20" for a buckborad type gokart a few years ago, holding up fine. louis

Now we're getting somewhere! Would it be possible to do that in steel I wonder? Maybe I'll attempt to braze the rim with large steel spokes and braze a steel hub together or a circle of plate steel?! hmmmm!

I like where this thread is going for I too would desire a solid rear rim with spinners even for that added bling!
I figure that motorcycles been doing it for years. Maybe bike mags are around the corner.

They make mag wheels for motorcycles and they also make some flimsy ones for bicycles. I would like to actually weld 1/4 "x 1" strips in place and then remove the spokes.
Can that be done without warping the wheel and or bearing plates?
Doc

Thanks a lot you guys. Those billit flame wheels are about $300 a whack. You just added $600+ to the cost of my next bike.
