U.S. citizen riding in Canada

Hi,
I want to take my bike to Canada and ride some trails there. I was wondering if the rules are different for me as a U.S. citizen. As a visitor with a U.S. passport, can I follow the licensing laws for Washington State (none required for motored bikes under 50cc) or can I even ride my motorized bike there? Even in America, with a Wa. drivers license how am I affected while riding in other states? Can anyone help with this? Thanks, Ken

Haggard, for one, would be a good person to ask. I would suggest leaving your styrofoam ear warmers home though. :D

In Canada it is not allowed, sorry. Electric was just allowed in most provinces but we still won't allow the segway. Seems that if it's "fun", we ban it!

Last summer, I rode up to the border. The Canadian border guards just insisted that I wear my helmet. It could well be that they just didn't really know what the rules are and cut me slack because I'm a local in this remote border area. They just looked at my drivers licence, I was almost hoping to be detained and strip searched by that pretty, freckled, redheaded, young, border guard girl.

I'm in B.C. The letter of the law is these are not exactly street legal. Wheather that law is enforced or not is the real question. I use mine as my sole transportation and have been riding one daily for well over 2 years now and am continuing to do so we speak. Riding in a mature and coeurtious fashion with helmet ,lights, mirror etc. and obeying the rules of the road while displaying a complete knowledge of your surroundings will go along way to leniency. I myself live less than a block from an RCMP detachment ,ride by it several times a day and get no grief whatsover.
This is in the lower mainland. Northern communities might differ.
I myself wouldn't hesitate to ride up there but can;t say for sure what the local policies are .

i agree Haggard

Like you I use mine every day and am always pretending to peddle while going along main St. Most of the time I have enough time to do the pull in the cluth/hit kill switch/peddle thing but twice now I was cought of gaurd and was sure I was "pinched" but nothing, I think these days with electric being OK,they may not even know that we are in fact breaking the law. I just wish I could get mine to quiet down and am reading about it here. Not much luck so far.....A one wheeled push cart is my next project for that reason.

i'm in niagara falls and there are friends of mine in port colborne and welland and we all ride and have never had and police related issues no one has even stopped us exept to ask questioins about the bike

I'm across the border from MN. The border people look at my bike as I enter Northwest Ontario and ask how it works. I go back and forth regularly. So far no problem.

LOL, geez thats funny.
Thats what I think about the USA.
They always ban the fun stuff, Thinking they are saving me from myself.
Let natural selection work. Politician says
we will to modify what is perfect, for 100 plus years.

Anyway, eneryone have fun while ya can!!!!
