petcock and fuel leak

Hi guys

The petcock on my new 70cc installation is leaking a bit of fuel. Just wondering if this is an easy fix with some teflon tape etc? It's actually leaking both with the fuel valve open and in the closed position. It leaks at a much faster rate when the fuel valve is in the open position though.

It is a new installation so maybe I should contact Warren at Z-Box about it (Australian buyers will know who that is).

Any ideas? I have searched for this as well within the forum. I couldn't find any possible solutions - besides a new petcock. I read Augidog's post on a brass petcock - better quality?

Cheers.

I have the same problem. I opened mine up to start with because it was full of rust and was blocked, now it bloody leaks everywhere! I wonder where i can get a good quality one from? ie. not the Chineese one

Well I've fixed my own problem.

(1) Use teflon tape (plumbers tape) around the thread of the petcock.

(2) Ensure the petcock is tightened to the petrol tank with a wrench.

I put the petcock on the petrol tank 4 weeks ago when I first got the engine. I forgot that at the time I only did it up finger tight.

Oh well. This may well help one other person from making the same mistake.

Cheers.

Yeah, but everytime that I tighten it up, the tap ends up on the wrong side and makes it hard to access. It must be the way the thread is; may have to place a lock nut on it some how.

I had this problem when I set up my kit too. I found the red gasket that came with the kit was hard and didnt seal well. I found a good sized rubber washer in the plumbing section of my hardware store, bored it out a little and screwed the petcock tight enough and in the position I liked. No leaks so far 2 years later. The teflon tape idea would work well too and shouldnt require you to screw it alllll the way in.

Mine did that too but you know what?
I got used to using it all backwards.
Why?
Thieves.

Use a round o ring they sell them at autozone the one that goes on a ford fuel injector works perfect.

the directions from boygofast say to put teflon tape, and i have never had a problem since day 1, so i guess teflon tape works lol harley tank petcocks look just like the chinese ones but better quality, so you might try a harley shop, or if yamahah look simmailar (never seen a yamahah up close) you might try there, when harley doesnt have it we go to yamahah cause one of my dad's bikes has an aftermarket engine, so wer'e always in and out for things harley dont have, but i have a harley petcock in my silver tank, cause the chinese 1 broke when i tried to tigten it :(

I might look into that myself. Right now I zip tied the fuel line to the petcock to give it some added seal;it works actually.
But there's always this...slight seepage coming from this valve.
It's not leaking but there's always gas where you touch.
I wonder if a Harley replacement would keep that gas away from my hands.

I solved your problem by getting a fuel line from a John Deer dealer. Much better than the clear fish tank stuff that comes with the kit. I still use those zip ties though.
