I'm thinking about putting a puch head on,I have a slant on now. The slant had a bigger "bowl" area (where the spark plug is) how can I make up that compression?

Glue coarse sandpaper to your piston top like LazyLightening shows in the post:

You don't have to run it in the cylinder like he did, it will naturally self center.
Take the head squish area out to full bore diameter.
This will decrease the size of the bowl and raise compression. It doesn't take much.
You may have to sand the head sealing surface or use a thinner base gasket or a thinner head gasket (like teflon strip) to get the squish measurement back to 0.010" to 0.030".
