How to Wire a Motorized Bicycle Kill Switch
The kill switch wire colors vary from kit to kit, but no matter what colors the wires are one of the kill switch wires must be joined to the Blue wire on the CDI/engine wire, and the other wire must be joined to the Black wire on the CDI/engine wire.
To join the wires you can strip some of the insulation off the blue and black wires and then solder one kill switch wire to each of them. You must then insulate the wires with heat shrink or electrical tape. It is very important to insulate the wires as if they touch each other or the frame then your engine will not run.
How does the Kill Switch Work on a Motorized Bicycle?
When the kill switch button is pressed, it creates a short between the wires coming from the magneto. The CDI can no longer create a spark, so the engine stops firing.
What is the White Wire for on a Motorized Bicycle Engine?
The white wire on a motorized bicycle engine is generally not needed, and it should be capped and taped over with insulation tape to prevent it from touching anything metal on your bicycle or engine.
Motorized Bicycle Kill Switch Wiring Diagrams
Here are some wiring diagrams for the kill switch to CDI on a motorized bicycle engine. There are two examples depending on the colors of your kill switch wires.
Example 1: Yellow and Green kill switch wires.
Yellow kill switch wire to blue engine/CDI wire.
Green kill switch wire to black engine/CDI wire.
Example 2: Yellow and Black kill switch wires.
Yellow kill switch wire to Blue engine/CDI wire.
Black kill switch wire to Black engine/CDI wire.
