Oregon Motorized Bicycle Laws

According to Oregon state law, motorized bicycles are classified as mopeds. A moped is a vehicle with the following criteria:
  • Designed to be used on the ground with no more than 3 wheels.
  • Rider uses seat or saddle.
  • Equipped with power source that keeps the vehicle moving without assistance. The source cannot be powerful enough to propel the vehicle forward at more than 30 MPH on a flat road.
  • For combustion engines, the piston or rotor displacement can only be 35.01 to 50cc (cubic centimeters).
  • Equipped with power driver system that is automatic (no shifting or clutching).
License

To ride a motorized bicycle in Oregon you will need a valid Class C Drivers License.

Registration


A motorized bicycle must be registered and titled to ride it on public road in Oregon. It must comply with federal highway safety and equipment requirements and EPA requirements. You will also need insurance.
