Tennessee Motorized Bicycle Laws

Tennessee Motorized Bicycle Laws

Tennessee has a specific set of laws for motorized bicycles. If a motorized bicycle is under 50cc then the following laws apply.

Registration

To ride a motorized bicycle in Tennessee you do not need registration or a title as long as the engine is under 50cc.

License

A motorized bicycle may be ridden on public roads in Tennessee if you have a valid drivers license.

If you are between the ages of 15 and 16 you may apply for a restricted license to operate a motorized bicycle. To get a motorized bicycle license you must:
  • Take a written test.
  • Take a vision test.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate a motorized bicycle.
A restricted license is only valid between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and within a seven (7) mile radius of the motor driven cycle driver’s home.

Other Motorized Bicycle Laws
  • A helmet must be worn by riders of all ages.
