West Virginia Motorized Bicycle Laws

A motorized bicycle is defined as a moped in West Virginia. A moped is defined as a motor-driven cycle with:
  • 2 to 3 wheels.
  • Foot pedals to permit muscular propulsion.
  • An independent power source with a maximum of 2hp.
  • A combustion engine with a maximum piston displacement of 50ccs.
  • A maximum top speed of no more than 30mph on a flat surface.
  • A power drive system that functions directly or automatically only, not requiring clutching or shifting by the operator after the drive system is engaged.
License

No license
is required to ride a motorized bicycle in West Virginia.

Registration

You do not need to register a motorized bicycle to ride it on public roads in West Virginia.
