yeah atom, plating killed me. 8 pieces for chrome was $980. A whole box of zinc plating was $125.

Hi JB,

Do you mind saying who you're getting to do your plating? This is something I need to start thinking about for my project (and something I'm dreading...)

Paula,
I'm glad to hear your not going to do your plating at home! lol. Although I think you could pull it off! Here is a website that has a good amount of info and pricing for you. http://www.qualitychromeplating.com This place is Chicago area I think and you can use it as a cost guide to help you decide whether or not it would be cost effective to ship it there or not.
Than you can check with more local area shops in Indiana and ask them if they do custom work. Ft Wayne has a place called Rekon Plating, that does custom work. http://www.reckonplating.com/
A few things to consider when you do re-plating is: You may lose a lot of detail in the stamping and Schwinn script. It can also fill in the knurling on your S-2 Rims and can even make them look fake or re-pop. Turn around time can be long. There is a guy on EBAY always selling seat posts , stems, and would be way more cost effective. Good Luck!

I've not done any re-plating on my project.

I got all these parts zinc plated for $125. They even cleaned & sandblasted the parts that needed it. These parts looked bad before they were done. 100_1372.jpg

The parts look great, and a very fair price. I usually pay more for the plater that will go the extra mile to do a show quality job, its 300% worth it in the end!!

I'm curious about your zinc plating, especially on your drum brake. It looks good, but I was wondering if yours was originally nickel plated? I'm wondering if there is a reason you chose zinc? And do they plate that with the arm attached?
The reason why I ask is because I have thought of having mine done and think there is no way to take that arm off? At $225 bucks, I don't want to screw mine up, especially since the finish is ok. Thanks
