4 stroking

A certain amount of four stroking is not only normal with a 2 stroke, but actually desirable as well...The video below is a quick 29 seconds with a Phantom 85 motor which does 4 stroke at idle, (or when deaccelerating, or not under any significant load), but when accelerating again, it should do so immediately, without bogging down or hesitating to do so.

This video is not being riden but just stationary as it idles and then revs, you will here what 4 stroking sounds like at an idle.

Would i fix 4 stroking by moving the c clip up?
Just remember that I already said that a certain amount is normal and even beneficial since it will actually be adding additional oil to the moving parts when it does so...But yes, moving the c clip up just one more notch towards the top should remove some four stroking for you, but I would only do so if it is bogging down on acceleration and or hesitating to do so on you, otherwise I would leave it alone and call it good as you do not want to run it too lean and deprive your motor of that needed oil wash it is getting to keep things lubricated as well as a cooler running motor...Heat and too little oil is the worst enemy of these motors.

Also, if you have already got the motor broken in with at least two tankfuls of gasoline, be sure to run it with no less oil than a 32:1 gas/oil ratio.

I am assuming you have already received your motor and have it up and running???

Now would be a good time to start posting pics I think.

I run a 40 to 1, I dont think its 4 stroking but it just sounds different from other bikes, I dont know if I still should move the clip up or what

DO NOT run it at 40:1 if it is brand new and not even broken in yet unless of course you really want to destroy things before you even begin.

20:1 is what you need to be doing for break-in purposes.

40:1 is TOO LEAN on oil for break-in purposes...Your trying to break it in on only half of the oil required to do so.

Oh crap what do i do now? My bike also ate through a tank of gas very quickly.

Good old fashioned common sense would tell you to drain out what is left in the gas tank...Then it is time to do this right this time.

DO NOT try mixing gas and oil in the gas tank...IT WILL BE WRONG...You will not be able to mix it properly that way.

Get a one gallon gas can or jug...fill it with one gallon of gasoline, hopefully Ethanol-Free gasoline which you will have to find a gas station in your area that has that...Once you have one gallon of gas in the gas jug, add 6.4 ounces of 2 cycle conventional oil to that one gallon of gasoline, DO NOT USE synthetic oil during the break-in period.

Once you have gas and oil in the gas jug, shake it vigorously so it will be mixed properly BEFORE pouring the gas/oil mixture into the gas tank.

Always shake the gas/oil mix everytime you add gas to gas tank for all future fill-ups.

After that one gallon is done, That one gallon of gas will be enough for the break in period.

Now you need to mix a 32:1 mix from now on...This will be one galloon of gas and then add 4 ounces of 2 cycle oil either conventional oil or synthetic depending on what you wish to use.
