I just took my build out for the first ride. I am having an issue with the throttle cable though. The setup just seems so incredibly cheap. The cable is basically too short and all fits together too flimsily.. The return spring on the carb is not strong enough to close the throttle after accelerating. I temporarily rigged up a return spring, but would like to know what others have done, or if there is a better cable/grip assembly I can buy etc..

Thanks!

I'm sure you can get a stronger spring at autozone, etc.
Well, it's the kind of spring that is not meant to be changed - built into the carburetor. It's too weak to return the throttle on it's own though. So I need to come up with a decent return spring. The carb springs I have are all for cars. I used one just for a short drive.. but need something smaller. I'll order an assortment on eBay an rig something up. Just figured I'd ask if anyone had something better. I think the throttle hand grip and cable were really crappy in my kit.

Remove your throttle cable and check it. Check for binding, Oil the cable.
Make sure it slides nice and easy. I doubt it's the carb spring.

It moves freely. There is no binding and I oiled it prior to install. The spring is very weak for returning a twist throttle. I think the cable is on the short side as well being adjusted as long as it will go. I went ahead and ordered a new set of throttle grips and cable from Amazon and some springs. so that should help.

Staton makes nice custom cable for about $15. If the cable is too short it must be binding somehow. You want long wide loops where it bends, reduces friction.
