60 miles and counting....

Dear Fellow Motorheads-
Just hit 60 miles on the odometer and not exceeding 15 mph. Mixing 26:1 as I normally do. What's a good break in mileage? I was told 2 tankfuls by the seller and am curious as to what other forum members think. Won't be doing any high speed runs, as the coaster brake/front brake combo just aren't that effective. That's okay, as I was never one for speed with my 49cc and am happy putting along around 20, just smelling the flowers-Gearhead222

Up the quality of the pads on the front brake and consider running a rear rim brake.

I think a lot of them say 200-300 miles minimum for break-in.

Depends on the cylinder plating and rings, but at the bare minimum I always went about 150 miles. 200 miles is common for many engines for the rings to have done the majority of their bedding in.

Understood and thanx all. I posted once before, but my Hyper Cruiser rear cross piece has only 1 gussetted hole and it's in the wrong location to mount any caliper brake. The front has high quality Tektra brakes with larger than stock pads-Gearhead437

You can create another mount with two plates like this. After all that I should have tried for a center pull caliper. The side pull don't seem to work as well.

Great idea, Robe! Where did you get the steel plate? FWIW, I used the cheapest stock side pull brakes on my 49CC motobike and they worked great! Gearhead 437

You could probably find some scrap pretty cheap or some bar stock at the hardware store.

I used 1/4 inch aluminum plate that I had kicking around.
