my bike stopped running. i bought a new top end and upon install i discovered my piston skirt is hitting the flywheel on the downstroke-why

Must or sent you parts that didn't match your engine. Look and measure old to new piston. The wrist pin holes must not be the same. Did you install a cylinder base gasket? Maybe adding another base gasket or two might solve the problem.
