Hi I'm new to this forum. I've built a 79cc occ chopper but I'm having trouble with brakes. I purchased a disk brake off pedal chopper I was wanting to mount on the rear wheel somehow. If anyone had any suggestions or ideas they would b

First I must say you did a very clean fit, I like how well it's resting in the frame, and something I was thinking about. More pictures please!

You are doing a single speed set up, OK so for a brake, how feasible is it to put a brake rotor on a geared shaft so that when the brake is engaged the rear wheel is slowed down by the gear along the chain.

It's like a jackahafted brake.

Can always attempt a disk brake on the right side if you are choosing to remove the chain on that side, considering the pedal width against the engine...

They have hub clamp adapters, it clamps to the hub with arms comming out and they one way or another hold the brake rotor. Then you adapt a disk brake caliper and its mount onto the frame to do the dirty work.

The front wheel will have to be laced different if you ever plan to put disks on the front wheel. Radial cannot be combined with hub based brakes.

Get ready to get yelled at by people about the importance of front brakes.

It's getting hot in here time to go! Good luck!

I have a universal disk brake adapter but have no clue how I can mount the rotor first time ever messing with disk brakes I had a bicycle shop remove the original bike sproket off the rear hub

Mount the rotor exactly like the large sprocket is on there on the left. They make a hub clamp just for that purpose. Your job is basically done for you just need the parts (and looking at the powder coated parts you already have I assume you're willing to buy more)

I am struggling with the exact same problem!

I fitted a Harley tire on the rear, but had to remove the V-brake bosses for clearance.

I fabricated a cool disk brake bracket and caliper thingie that could use the sprocket as the rotor but my clearances are super tight. Still trying to find a good brake pad material. A lot of trial and error - mostly error.

I have one more trick up my sleeve, but I am running out of tricks and sleeves.

I am wondering if it would be feasible to make a resistant roller wheel for the back: pull the brake and let the roller drop onto the tire to slow it down.

Good luck to you!

Ok so you already have a three point hub adapter and gear so if you were to add a disk adapter to that like this one should work! depending on the size of the sprocket the disk rotor has to be pretty big to allow clearance between the chain and the caliper!I used a 203mm rotor with a small dia 34t gear and it works well.

I ended up tap welding the rotor to the hub it worked perfectly plan on doing same to front I am also changing my rear sprocket to a 50 tooth I'm running a 32 tooth right now and it takes of so so slow I'm also gonna weld a long straight pipe and still have to remove the gouverneur and swap the valve springs out
