there is another advantage to vertical mount, that pillow blocks for the jackshaft can mount right on the plate, something I have to fab myself for regular horizontal mounting.
I read tho it's wise to make a sheetmetal oil dipper that points down from the rod when you mount vertically.

What's this about a sheetmetal oil dipper? I have not heard about this. Can you refer to other posts where this is the topic of discussion? Thanks.
 
I know you have to do that when converting a vertical shaft to horizontal but as long as it’s dipping it shouldn’t matter. I think I’m going to focus on 4 strokes as CG engines are garbage there’s just too many problems with them.
