Cardboard wetted in 2t oil will work just fine, even long term Cereals have excellent thickness for making gaskets out of their boxes.

Make sure you sand off any graphics or printing on the cardboard. Especially if it is the coating like on a cereal box. If you don't, it might not seal right.
