Stolen Another stolen motored bike

I just heard from my renter's insurance co. They will not cover my loss because they don't cover any "motorized vehicles". That includes motored bikes, quads, scooters, dirt bikes, etc. Check with your insurance company to make sure you are covered. You may need a rider or a seperate theft policy for a motored bike. The cops are absolutely worthless at recovering stolen bikes, motored or not, they simply are not interested. I probably will not build another bike now. I really can't afford to give $1200.00 away.

I am very sorry to hear of this as the final outcome of your serious injustice.
Perhaps sometime down the road, you can build another one. Hopefully in a situation where you can better protect your valuables, not that you should even have to do that.
I stated it once before, and it warrants repeating, I HATE thieves!
They are a scourge of the earth.
Whatever your final decision, may peace be with you.

Excellent idea, Dan. I've got an 11 yr old daughter whos lost 2 bikes and I've had to explain to her about the rats who steal kids bikes....of course a child thinks it was her fault, until you explain it was not. Guaranteed 2 crushed kneecaps if I ever catch one.:devilish: At Walmart, I get the greeter to watch my bike...I buy him a soda. I got a Kryptonite $40 lock which will take 30 minutes to cut thru, with people watching...... Cheers,Apache

Be mindful of what you attach that killer lock TO. See Tom's stolen bike where it had been the night before and where it is no longer.

Mary, I would lock my bike to both bars on the rack. Thieves will PROBABLY be deterred if they have to cut through TWO bars...or the FUGETTABOUTIT chain.

I carry my 57lb bike upstairs to my second-floor apartment. It is chained to the rail in such a way that thieves would have to cut through two railings. The bike is parked 6 feet from my screen door, and there are two dogs in the house. I could lock it inside my house, if the need arises.

If you want to keep your bike, secure it like a motorcycle. Sometimes we have to go to ridiculous lengths to safeguard our stuff. Regular bicycles and mopeds get stolen on a regular basis here.

Hey motorbikemike45, do you have any pics? I will be up that way in 2 weeks and I'll keep an eye out for ya.

I have had one attempt to get my bikes. Guy tried cutting the lock off my shed. He is waiting for his court date to find out how long he has to sit in jail! :devilish:

Need to be in Mississippi...Buddy of mine caught a thief stealing (or should I say..trying to)..his neighbors dogs.... This guy didn't have a court date. Of course he won't be accused of stealing anything else either.

Actually, Crow, I was wrong. I was thinking about Kryptonite lock, but bought an OnGuard 3/4" cable. Something to slow em down. Didn't know about theft coverage then. That's good to know.
I always tie up my bike where there's a lot of people looking at it, including me if I'm going to eat something.......I don't leave it too long or I park it inside. You gotta tie em up every time you leave em. The one time you don't tie your bike to something around here, it's gone..Houston's full of behind your back chicken s--- punks.

I'm pretty sure that On Guard products also have an insurance policy with them in case of theft.

5-7, It's really a shame that we have to go to such lengths to protect our stuff.

I think Tom's bike was stolen at night. If they want it, they'll probably find a way.

I read someone's post somewhere on the Internet talking about a bike he had seen attached with a U type lock to a street sign and it had been there for a couple of weeks. He was commenting on how he was thinking of stealing it. No sense of "it's NOT OK to steal someone else's property." I sure wouldn't want that Karma.

I took my pedal bike to work one day, brought the chain but forgot the lock. So I rack the bike and place the chain, so at a distance it looks locked up. My wife went home for the lock and returned 2 hours later. I ride the elevator to the parking level, exit and see.....

THE MAINTENANCE MAN RIDING MY BIKE!!!

Things coulda gotten REAL UGLY, but hey, the used bike was a freebee, and I'm not jeopardizing my State job over assaulting/fighting this guy. So I walk up to him and say "You wanna get off MY bike?"

No apology, he and his partner kept insisting that the bike WASN'T LOCKED UP!!! Not once did he apologize, just kept saying it wasn't locked up.

I was ****ED! but never made a formal complaint at that time. I figured I didn't want this 40-something-year-old immigrant to lose his job over something stupid. Then I remembered the rash of personal items mysteriously disappearing from my co-workers' desks...and this was the guy who'd come in and change fluorescent ceiling lights on a regular basis. After conferring with my supervisor, I made a formal complaint. It's been two years and I haven't seen that maintenance man again.

He probably got fired, which was a good thing in the end.

Bad kharma caught up with him, and all for a beat-up bike.:geek:

for $90, it had BETTER be an amazing lock...

If the lock could GUARANTEE my bike would not get stolen, I'd be willing to pay $900 for the lock.

If a talented determined thief REALLY wanted your bike, he'd have it.....IFFF given the right opportunities and circumstances.

However, in his head, he's calculating....is this item worth the risk, time and energy...or shall I move on to easier pickings, like unlocked or poorly secured bicycles/mopeds/motorcycles/vehicles?
