Any alternate to welding

been a while since I burnt a rod !!!

I just rang a welder, I'm going to drop it to him on Saturday.
He said about $50 should cover the job.

I'll try and get some pics before and after.

but -- that is NOT a fair price to weld !!

if one takes the rear wheel off
sands and gets ready
closer to 25 dollars seems resonable ??

maybe shop around ??

I recently needed to remove a 3 piece crank .
The only surviving bike shop in 60 miles charged me $40.00 to remove the crank arms .
Needless to say I will never return.
I bought the tool from sick bike parts for $10.00 . This operation takes about ten seconds.
Live and learn.

how can they do take and sleep at night !!!

it's been so many years now since I owned a bicycle shop
can't remember what we charged to remove crank arms
but I am sure of one THING it would not have been much

well I guess the only good THING about your visit to that shop was

at least you know now where not to go

good luck -- happy riding

25 US dollars probably now equals 50 australian dollars.

They've had the bike for 3 weeks and continue to say soon, its not even been started yet.
on the up side, my family are buying me a new motor for my 40th birthday.
So I'm going to buy a new moutain bike to go with it, as my present to myself.

hope that your min pay is higher than ours -- around 8 dollars

3-weeks
they shouldn't have said they would do the job if they thought it would take that long !!!

3 weeks.....their effing u around.
Take it somewhere else;book it in first cos some specialist welders need to have their equipment setup first.
Good luck.

For that kinda price you might as well just buy a welder. Even if you use it only a few times you got your moneys worth.
As a general rule I do all my own repair and maintenance work unless it requires specialized and very expensive equipment. Just do your research first and take your time. It's worked for me so far. I've probably saved thousands on just my car upkeep alone.

Besides, I don't like other people touching my THINGS when I'm not around to see they're not causing even more damage.

just get another bike, they are only like $99 new and less if you get used.

I spent alot of time to get my bike working properly,
only to have it fail in this way.
I am doing a new build, seperate to this bike.
and haven't seen any $99 bikes at local shops.

I have grown attached to this bike having owned it for like 9 years.
...can't explain it better than that.
