Hi all I've never had an electric bike or electric scooter before. Looking to get one possibly. I currently don't have a motorized bike but have a Honda ruckus. Gas and oil aren't too expensive for it. Just looking for a street legal electric bike that goes faster than a measly 20mph. Looking for American made or maybe Japanese made bikes.

What's your budget? And what do you want it to do? How much work are you willing to put in on? You can get something tuned for your needs and relatively affordable if you put a lot of work into it. Are you looking for a bicycle with electric assistance or something that rides like a china doll build?

LFP/lithium iron cells are the most affordable but not very power dense. Tons of info on building your own battery pack with reclaimed cells, stupid cheap but insane time investment. https://batteryhookup.com/

Pay attention to the C ratings. That's the amount of amps you can safely draw continuously: 2C 20ah pack can give 40 Amps forever without overheating. Batteries can handle more but only briefly with diminishing returns on how long. Generally the more you draw, the less time you can safely draw it, its about heat build up.

For the motor, big thing to look for is kV rating and continous current ratings. Power is less important because there is no gear box. That 10hp electric motor is only 10 at max rated current and speed.

Another thing is hub motor or mid drive. Mid drives need gear reduction, for hub motors the nominal wheel diameter is the gearing. E.G. a hub motor with 300 rpm at 36volts, in a 26 inch wheel can hypothetically top out at 24mph if it can supply enough torque.

This build is as cheap as can be.

I noticed the surron seems to be an off road dirt bike type vehicle. I did find these wheels for the light bee though.

As a guide, my ebike had a 19ah battery and I could go 37 miles down to a 10% charge using throttle only. So that's a 19 mile range before needing to head back. That was on a $2200 ebike. That was not enough range for me, needed another extra batt to be happy. At the time an extra 19ah batt that could only be bought from the mfr was $1300. Way too much just for a batt so I sold it. Batts have come down in price to half that now. Check out Rad ebikes, price is right, W has one and endorses them. IR has a an Ebike he likes a lot, can't remember the name. 90% of all ebikes and parts are made in china even if they claim to be an American co. That's my experience. You can gamble on a $700 ebike with some nice specs and features. Unknown named Chinese co, but will they be around to warranty it or if you need proprietary parts in a year or two? Batteries and controllers are not universal and ARE proprietary to that manufacturer.

Super 73 has a bad tendency to snap in half. A surron is the smallest you could go for reasonable performance, and then only intra city or trails unless you want pedal assist.

Onyx has pedals, but you pay a lot
