Surly 1x1 is pretty good. Old steel mountain bike can work. Gotta be one that used to be nice

Unless the bike is your only source of transportation; it's better to not ride for a year while building a safe bike, than to be riding an unsafe bike in one month.

I've just started back riding the Sidewinder recently after nearly a year of not riding due to lower back issues, then recovering from back surgery.

A few years back my bike was my primary source of transportation. I have a small car; so I predominantly ride for pleasure now. However, even when my bike was my main source of transportation I still didn't ride until any safety issue failures got fixed.

So very funny when telemarketers call then refer to you as Sir. I immediately go into a ranting rave saying "Did you just assume my gender, why didn't you ask what are my pronouns?" Then they start apologizing and I hang up on them lol

Sounds like a kent Bayside and a can of black spray paint is what you need. I personally like the hyper cruiser even though it needs a little bit more work to make a great bike off. This is what mine looks like. View attachment 218817

Building a good bike on a budget isn't hard if you go one piece at a time.

The Hyper Cruiser comes in a 7 speed too. Can you look one up on the US side, here in Canada they're 300.
