Any Ideas For Homemade Engine Mounts?

Hello! I cant afford new engine mounts and my studs keep breaking out. The stock mounts dont fit on my bike. I have a stock 80cc china kit with new exauhst and carburetor, none of which have given me problems. This motor mount keeps falling out and breaking studs, ive tried jb weld and all. I have a drill, sockets, hammers, and all the basic tools. I do have many drillbits though. Im looking for suggestions to replace the motor mount shown in the picture, anything helps!

I originally mounted my engine using the same rubber mounts. They allowed the engine to vibrate like crazy. I remounted the engine using the stock hardware and some 1/16 inch neoprene material. The idea is to mount the engine rigidly to the frame. The frame absorbs the vibration. Excessive vibration may be the cause of the hardware failure. I have a Murray frame too.

That's one sick bike! Any idea on removing the studs?

Double nut the studs to install or remove. I use a washer between two nuts tightened together. Wrench the inner nut to remove, the outer nut to install.

Drop a c note and get a cheap stick welder. Then just use angle iron. The welds dont have to be pretty, that's what a grinders for.

Check out chainlube, hes got a sweet design that works very well. Easy and cheap too. Muffler clamps!!

I recently used a steel band from the hardware store to secure the engine to the frame after the front mounts broke. The band goes across the engine head and secures to the vertical frame tube. It is very secure - but not sure if the steel band will be able to handle the vibration and torque. We shall see!

u want a nice steel beam for a good engine mount. I mentioned last year a build eventually i was gonna do with steel beams.
For one of my engine mounts was 1/2" plate steel welded to 1/4" thick angle iron.
railroad track could also make a nice engine mount but is very very hard to weld.
these days i got s**tty drill bits and my bandsaw blade died so for a while im stuck using 1/8" s**tty angle iron steel for mounts cause its a pita to manually cut > 1/8" without decent drill bits and my horizontal band saw. i usually traditionally only build things with at least 1/4" thick or 1/2" thick steel for mounts. I heard 1" thick steel tho works better.

One trick for welding heavy stuff is to preheat it with a torch or something right before you weld.

Here is a front mount I customized for an oversized downtube. It's a 2" EMT tiedown with a strip of rubber cemented to the inside for a tight grip. The crossmember bolted to the engine has two 1/4" x 28 threaded mounting holes. I haven't started the engine yet, but the mount is a solid as any I have used.

Have you thought of one of these front mounts yet as it is probably the solution to your problem...Its very similar to the front motor mount i made for myself...the rear mount is rarely a problem, just the front one...DAMIEN
