Having read the sticky and having put *that* idea well and truly out of my head is there any worthwhile friction drive design with a vertical shaft engine?
I was thinking of something with a GXV50 and using a pair of 45 degree cogs to connect to the roller. It could possibly be much better balanced than that size engine hanging off the side. but I'd be stuck with no clutch which wouldn't be a huge problem if the brake also lifted up the engine
