Hey guys.. so I've been addicted to my phantom 85 bike..it's so fun and impressive..i haven't even touched my phatmoto since I put the phantom to use..the only issue is it's so loud and I have been missing people off..I mean if the stock muffler without restrictions is the only way to go, I understand. I'm not going to stop riding..but is there any way to silence it a little..even just a tiny bit..I was thinking of shoving some steel wool in there for my lack of knowledge and tools available..if anyone has some input, I'd greatly appreciate it. HAPPY RIDING. And yes I am going to take that front fender off tommoro damien and gordy

Nope...lol.

The exhaust is actually stuffed with cotton believe it or not and welded and made into a totally sealed unit...It is about as quiet as a chainsaw motor is gonna be...lol.

  • Ultra quiet muffler (Stainless steel with sound insulation cotton inside)
Hopefully you have checked all nuts and bolts fasteners periodically as they do loosen after riding it...Especially the four nuts on top of the motor, they loosen up quite often for the first 200 miles or so and need to be retightened...ONLY TIGHTEN WHEN COLD, or you will risk stripping out the threads.

Torque setting for those is 12 foot pounds also known as 144 inch pounds depending on what size torque wrench you might have.

I doubt you can really get it much quieter without harming performance or with simple tools. You might be able to cut it open and pack it with some steel wool, but I wouldn't do that unless you can weld it back together.

Oh, I was unaware the muffler was already packed. I thought it was a chamber style muffler.

I just hope she lasts atleast a year..I'm only on my second tank and have been babying her..never full throttle ..slow acceleration and stopping periodicly to cool..the motor is insane
Getting past the break-in is he hardest part. My Phantom is going on 3 years old and about 3000 miles. It's V2 that I did a decent bit of work to including a little "hot rodding" here or there (port matched intake and reed block, tighter squish, etc. ) Currently running as a piston port with no reeds in the reed block. Currently being used by a teenage boy 3 to 5 days a week, with me harassing him constantly about keeping up with the maintenance on it.

Just make sure that muffler is braced to the frame if you haven't done so already. It will break off if it isn't.
