Are Bofang carbs hot garbage or alright?

I bought a middle of the road 80cc kit from Amazon and substituted a few things for higher end stuff then came with the engine kit. I dont really have any complaints on how the bike works even 400 miles later tbh, but Im curious if its worth while to get a good aftermarket carb? I noticed that this carb could work better imo, no matter how I tune it.

Imo the BoFeng is the best carb for these. The phantom pushes 5-6 ho and runs one. Check this out if you want more performance...

It actually runs just fine but I can tell with my ear that there is some refinement to be had. At the very least it starts easy peasy and idles perfect all the time. Also my motor runs nice and cool at on average 211-247F and the plug tells me that the mixture is good. I'll give this info you passed along a look. Thank you, Gordy.

My rule of thumb is why try to fix what is not broken???...lol...lol.
Ya got a cheap run of the mill China Girl running that good, are you one of them who is always fixing it until it breaks???...lol...lol.

They do leave a little to be desired, but remember these are cheap Chinese bike engines. My 2¢ anyway. Just please don't fall for the HP carb. They never run right
Ohh you dont have to tell me twice, heh. Copy that for sure! Nice thing is, its not too tricky to polish these things up with a little know how. I went cheap initially just to try things out. Still treated the experiment well and broke it in right and adjusted things as I went along doing the periodic checks. Im considering putting a chainsaw carb on it from a large chainsaw I have a spare for that is german made. I can make an adapter to attach one to the stock manifold on the bike.

Ha! Nah, I just get curious if its worth messing with or just enjoy as is since I have no reference. I think from what Im reading, that I have a nice runner so I will enjoy its trouble free running at the moment. The next experiment is gonna have a higher budget since it seems like a viable hobby.

The Bofeng is an improved version of the NT carb. They are simple single jet carburetors, and that means they will never be perfect across the entire RPM range, but you can dial in the mid range and top end fueling between main jet changes and needle adjustments. The idle and low throttle fueling won't be "ideal", but since these little engines aren't exactly spilling over with power and are mainly used in single speed mode they spend the majority of their time around half throttle or more anyway. Even so, the fueling at those points is still good enough to get the job done without issue.

That is all of my suspicions confirmed about this carb. Just as you described it does behave ideal in a certain triangle range when dialed in. (Meaning I get good idle, easy starting with a choke bump when ice cold, and 2 strokes nice and healthy at about 3700-4000rpm and oddly 2 strokes at low rpm if I'm gentle with the throttle roll) I'm happy with it tbh as it performs very well how I got it tuned and its consistent. It does climb hills decent especially with a little help and cruises right at the ideal speed for this chassis @ 21mph. Thank you for the insight!
