Bike accident, family freaking out? Need advice

He is talking about the solid wall of text you keep posting with no breaks or spaces in between sentences or paragraphs which makes it very hard to read, especially for folks like me at 70 years of age with macular degeneration in my eyes that require injections straight into my eyeballs every few weeks just so I don't go totally blind.
oh... 🤔😱 That's why... Well I apologise... Had no ideea people have that big problems... I've got no problems at 43 years old... Well maybe just my left knee ,but pain only appears if I run more than 8-10 kms... I'll keep it short in future 😁

Saturday night I had an accident with my motorized bike. I don’t have memory of the incident, but from what we could figure out it seems like someone most likely cut me off and I had to swerve to avoid them. They told me my helmet saved me.

I had a pretty bad concussion, had to be hospitalized for the night and had a orbital fracture, chipped teeth, etc, etc. couldn’t tell the paramedics where I lived when they found me. When I came to the next morning I realized my friends and family had somehow found out and they were there.

I am feeling better now, but my friends are still worried and my family wants me to get rid of the bike and stick to my car. I do what I can to minimize risk. I wear a helmet, avoid main roads as best I can, keep my lights on but I know sometimes these things just happen and I can’t control other drivers. The bike is okay, just need to replace the throttle cable and front wheel. I think I would be very nervous to get back on it, but I don’t want to stay scared of it. I really enjoy riding it, and put thousands of miles on without issues.

But my family says get rid of it. The bike to me is freedom. I feel conflicted. Anyone have any advice who has been in a similar situation?
March 28th 2009 I wrecked a dirtbike, was in icu 2 weeks hospital over a month. When I was recovered enough I got back on a dirtbike. All my friends and family sold all their desert toys I kept right on riding. Thats a decision ONLY YOU CAN MAKE

“5 mph wipeout”: Looks as though he got the wind knocked out of him, he could have broken ribs and helping him upright without checking first could cause a punctured lung, just saying.

Watch the fall frame by frame ,
While he's doing a baby scorpion, you'll notice his arms end up down along his side with his face eating pavement

I've got no problems at 43 years old...
*Inhales deeply*

I'm slightly younger than you (42)...
-My left hand was slightly crushed under the weight of a 3406 CAT diesel at 20 when a motor mount collapsed damaging tendons so now I can't extend my thumb on that hand at will, it and my index finger are semi-locked together while my ring and middle finger are just barely independent of one another (glad I'm a righty).
- I had my first back surgery at 28, Laminectomy L5-S1 and L4-L5. Discetomy L4-L5, and foraminal Stenosis from L2-S1 for all 4.
- I have the beetus (Type 2)
- I can dislocate the right side of my jaw at will after a fight I had 20-ish years ago - it's really fun to do when at the Dentist.
- That same fight also broke my nose and it healed just slightly off center to the right, but thanks to some scar tissue on the right side from where my glasses cut into my eye socket/face it's hard to tell unless you pinch my nose.
- I have 5 astigmatisms between both eyes, 3 left and 2 right, while also being near-sighted. People that put on my glasses get headaches quickly lol.
- both of my knees have had tendon damage resulting from a couple of different problems. The first was a massive growth spurt that caused the tendons to be weakened and resulted in wear and damage to both lateral meniscus'. I grew 7 inches in less than 90 days.
- my right ankle lacks some lateral stability due to a bike crash that tore some ligaments. Think worst possible sprain in history. thankfully my foot wasn't ripped off, so I consider it a win.

Out of the 365.25 days in a year, I exist pain free without assistance maybe once or twice every 30 days.

Despite that, I still go out of my way to do "dangerous activities" because I would rather live a shorter life doing what I love to do than live to be 90+ and never having done a thing. I have lived a "rough" life, if it isn't obvious.

On the plus side, it can only go downhill as I get older.

You'll be aaight, 1 day at a time is all we have. If you don't believe in a higher power believe in yourself. The human body has amazing healing powers if applied correctly.
