Oh that’s really unique. I’m gonna have to brainstorm on this, I’m assuming this helps with running the bike at slower speeds as well send you can have larger gears for the extra torque.

Red gears
1(1-3)
Hill climbing and heavy load pulling
Yellow gears
2(3-5)
Around town general use
Green gears
3(5-7)
Open road use.
The chainring is only changed when in rear sprockets (3) or (5). This eliminates cross-chaining. Gives you 9 sequential non-redundant gears. Starting gears are 1(1) for take-offs going uphill and 2(3) for all other take-offs
