Bike to Trike conversion kits

I am still clinging to my fantasy of a nice gas powered trike. I own a schwinn meridan trike but it seems that may be a poor candidate for conversion to gas power due to the cheesy rims & spokes.
Has anyone had experience with the bike to trike conversion kits sold by Closeout Bicycles or Bike City?
Am I correct in my thinking that these are designed to use standard type bicycle rims & hubs as opposed to the toy ones on the Meridian?
Any help you can offer this newbie is appreciated

Pretty sure you can get some tough trike wheels at your local bike shop. Or shop around the internet. You can put mag rims on if you wanna go that direction. Staton inc has tons of parts for beefing up your current trike: http://www.staton-inc.com/store/index.php?p=catalog&parent=37&pg=1
