Hi y'all👋🏻🤠! Yep. Flooding. Again. I have 200+ miles on this engine. 20:1 still. Took it apart. Flicked float tabs down. Ran for 10 more miles. Now it's flooding and won't stay running, again. Removed and soaked carb and the float bowl in carb cleaner after I took the bowl off. Put it all back together, and reattached it to the bike. Turned side screw all the way in then let it back out 3 turns. Got on, opened the gas valve on the tank and left choke closed. Pedal like the devil. Itll start, spit and sputter and die after about 5-10 seconds after I stop, pull in the clutch open choke and futilely try to keep it running... Gas goes drip drip out of the bottom "drip screw" area on the carb. I wonder if the float is perforated or my idle needle/throttle assembly in the top of the carb is sticking open or something...I just can't figure it out. Got the Bofeng Blues...help!

The float might be bad or something?

You might try replacing the fuel filter that came with the kit for a better one? Beyond that IDK, something is preventing that float valve from proper operation though it seems.

Did you shake the float while it was out of the carb? That will tell you if there is fuel in it.
It's ok. No fuel in it. Even tested it in a cup for a few hours. It floats and stays floating. I cleaned the carb up with carb cleaner again, took out the float pin inspected it and it's clean and ok. Shot some carb cleaner down in the float pin hole l. After reassembly I did a test by turning it upside down (to get a "float needle seated" position) and blew into the fuel inlet and it didn't blow through, then turned it right side up and blew air through. That tells me the float /float needle is operating ok. Tomorrow when I reattach it to my bike, I'll see if it runs. Thank for your replies, Chainlube and Johnny!💜👩🏻‍🔧

I have never had a BoFeng fail on me, but that didn't stop me from having spare ones around just in case...lol.

If it were me, I would just order another one and throw it on since they are so cheap to buy, they are actually a great little carby for these motors, it is just getting the needle valve in the right position based on your altitude and climate for your area.

I don't know what conditions you have on "Venus" so I can't tell you exactly where to position the needle "C" clip...lol...lol.

Is it possible that it is actually not flooding but you have insufficient spark problem developing allowing the fuel to build up and drip ???

This also happens often to folks, sometimes it is the CDI gone bad, maybe the wires from motor to CDI have become not firmly attached to each other, or if you are running the cheap Chinese "Z" series spark plug which are notorious for going bad and needs to be replaced with a decent NGK-BR6HS Japanese spark plug.
The spark plug boot not firmly connected to the spark plug, etc. etc.

Just throwing some ideas and suggestions out there for you to consider.

Easy way to verify if the bowl is truly flooding is to use good ol' Archimedes' work. Clear fuel tubing on the float drain and turn it vertical with an end long enough to be about as tall as the top of the carb, but preferably taller to try . Remove or otherwise jam open that drain on the bottom of the bowl once the hose is in place - now you have an accurate level gauge that you can read. If it goes up to the top of the bowl or beyond, there is your answer.

If you are 100% certain it's flooding and know the float isn't sinking then it's going to be the needle valve or seat not sealing for whatever reason.

As Damien said, these things are cheap enough it never hurts to have a backup sitting on the shelf.

Hi Damien 👋🏻 I'm at about 1100 ft elevation in the wooded hills it's fall avg daily temperature high is 50s lows in 20s. I think I've discovered the problem, maybe. The top of the carb where the throttle cable goes in has crappy threads that won't screw all the way down nor hold with any proficiency. I've had problems from day one trying to screw the throttle cap back on, and recently it's been super finicky, not screwing on straight, and popping back off during re-assembly. I think that is keeping the big needle(set in the middle c-clip groove, btw) from seating properly . The throttle grip to cable action when assembled is not fluid and crisp either, like it was in the beginning, however when I unscrew the needle/ sleeve/cap thing and remove it from the top of the carb and let it hang, it actuates just fine. Spring is ok. Throttle grip snaps back like it's supposed to when I release it. Maybe I should just get a couple of these little bofeng carbs just to have some back up and spare parts? I really want to ride this thing and get the final 90 miles of break in!
