Note: After posting this, I went online and noticed that this vendor now sells engines with the locking clutch lever, roller wrist pin bearing, and bearing wheel tensioner. If clutch and paint issues are improved then my review may no longer be applicable. Please submit your experience with these engines!

I've had the opportunity to purchase two of his engines over the last 3 months.

Here are my general observations:

1. Quick shipping is a plus.
2. First engine was not properly packed and the plastic throttle assembly was (crushed) damaged. Vendor replaced it reluctantly but said he normally requires buyers to file a claim with the shipping company. Shipping company would not have honored the claim if I had. The box was not damaged on the outside.
3. Cheap older style clutch assembly. Yuk! These types NEVER work on amy of my bikes. They can't be depressed sufficiently to lock on my Skyliners or Searcher bikes.
4. Both engines start easily and are VERY smooth. Much less vibration than my older Dax engines. My only comment regarding the engine is that the engine is very sensitive to the choke setting and requires some fiddling with the choke while starting to get it to fire up. I drilled out the hole on the choke plate and opened up the airflow going into the engine. This solved the problem and engine now starts easily on full choke.

5. Clutch: BAD. Unlike Dax engines, the clutch cannot be adjusted properly. To this day, I cannot find an appropriate setting on the cable that allows me to have the clutch engage completely when released and NOT spin the wheel when it is locked into place. I have never had this issue with Dax or Kings motorbike engines. Also, the clutch setting seems to be tempermental and dependent on temperature. On colder days, releasing the clutch lever does not allow 100% positive engagement and clutch slips when starting. On warmer days the opposite is true and locking clutch does not completely allow disengagement. This is a deal breaker for me and the 75 bucks I saved in buying these engines is not worth it in my opinion.

6. Power: First engine power came on quickly with my normal break in procedure and was pulling 25 up hill on a 50 tooth sprocket. Second engine can only muster 17 mph. I'll let you know if things change.

7. Paint: Probably the worst paint quality I have seen in the almost 50 Happy time kits I've purchased over the past several years. If you value a decent paint job on your tank and chain guard, look elsewhere.

Overall comments: Value is offset by the clutch issue, need to buy locking clutch and a true roller bearing chain tensioner and lousy paint job. You get what you pay for.

Yeah, that would **** me off, too.
I will say though, that when I was about to buy the eBay auction, I emailed him and let him know I would be going out of town on Friday night...(it was Monday). He got it to me in time! In fact, he replied back that he could get to to my by Friday, I paid him, and 3 hours later I had tracking info.

No regrets with my purchase. Luckily. I think all these engines originate at the same place...so it's all about what gets done to them before they arrive at your house...and I understand that Dax does make sure it's all good so you're not disappointed when it arrives...but like I said, no issues with mine so far...

I bought my BGF kit last year and I gotta say, 1246 miles later...loving it. I changed out to a 44t sprocket and easily go 34 mph at high rpms...cruises around 30 easily. Have sheared mounting bolts twice, but thats an easy fix...I don't know the bgf engine I bought is SOLID.

just bought mine and got it a few days ago....still breaking it in, but it started up eaisly and all the parts were well packaged...

only problem, that was a pain in the azz...was the mian jet wasnt drilled out large enough...took 2 days to figure it out, but I fixed it today and its running solidly....I purchased the dualstart 80 cc engine for $239 delivered.

I wanted a backup pull start in case I decide to build a go cart withthois engine for my son

Well just got my bgf "80" cc kit friday took allday sat and sun to install likee 20 hours! 1st problem sproket was too small for my huubs tried 2 diff. ones and no go. So I had to increase diameter about 1/16 of an inch. Got everything together and tried bike out it ran very fast and with clutch engaged EXTREMELY fast..............checked carb settings if tube slid all the way down etc.. idle screw would not let tube slide all the way down removed screw still really fast idle!!!!

Checked fittings where carb connects to motor and fittiings were stripped luckily I had a couple of 6mm allen head bolts that fit and tightened perfectly and no more fast idle!

Clutch assembly was pure junk replaced with a shamino gear lever works better than stock locking clutch mechanism. I am in the process of replacing all connectors with new US made hardware............I noticed that ALL the stock connecting rods, bolts, nuts etc...were of very poor quality.................then i guess you get what you pay for???

So it runs now pretty good after maybe 10 miles?? Will let you Guys and Girls know what happens during the next few hundred miles.

If anyone has any tips please let me know!

Thanks Doc in Denver

Good for you, Doc. I have a BGF, too, and I'm very happy with it.

I have yet to change out the studs, but that will probably come this weekend.

In the meantime, make sure you put Blue loctite on EVERY nut and bolt (except the nylon lock nuts).

Have Fun!

After a couple of days of tweaking and researching bike is running great! Had very bad vibration problem. I noticed the thread on vibration and how they ran a stabilizer from head bolt to the cross bar....... sounded pretty good but I didn't want to run a bar from head bolt. I used a couple of 12in clamps hooked together to form one large clamp. Clamp runs from below the exhaust monifold to cross bar tightened it up and no more viibration!!!!! Also changed most of the fittings (nuts, bolts, studs etc... to high quality ones which are unfortunately made in China!!!.......(this has got to change!!!!)..sorry couldn't help that. All fittings appear to be much more vibration proof than stock items.

A long time ago i rode a 50cc Vespa Chiao moped when my headlight burned out i put a car headlight on it and it powered it beuatifully........question why is it that my mopeds magneto was so much stronger than these are????
