can i use a 2-stroke carb on a 4-stroke?

i was curious if a 2-stroke carb will work on a 4 stroke, otherwise i would like some recommendations on a good and reliable 4-stroke carb. Building another motored bike for my roommate.

already got a muffler on the way and we're looking for a frame. The engine will be a standard HS 4 stroke kit.

sweet! I only ask cuz the 2 stroke aftermarket carbs are MUCH cheaper than the 4 stroke variants.

For sure, I'd give it a shot. I think you can order one with interchangeable jets. What engine are you trying to run it on?

standard HS 4 stroke. stock parts except the muffler and the carb will be aftermarket.

Aside from some exceptions, such as carbs with power jets on them, there really aren't that many purpose built 2 stroke carbs. They are just slide carburetors. You match the bore size to the application and the right jets for the right fuel level.

The power jet part is important if you look at PWK carbs in particular. You can still make it work on a 4 stroke, but it isn't as necessary and can add a layer of headache to the tuning. Power Jets were developed specifically for 2 stroke race bikes.
