I only have bicycle oil and I need to oil my chain. I do a lot of offroading and driving on beaches. Would theses oils ruin my bike? If not which one should I use? I live in ireland where its fairly rainy and cold.

Yes, you can use either of those. My mind was temp. broken and I thought you were asking about using that as a two cycle engine oil. Wet.

I thought you meant can you use bicycle oil in your 2 stroke engine. I just added "chain" to the title to avoid confusion, we don't want anyone to get this mixed up!

Thanks for the help fellas and sorry about the confusing title. Put the oil on and she's running smoothly.

You're welcome. Yeah specifics do help because sometimes there are interesting questions such as Can I use dry ice to cool my 2 stroke. On the surface it sounds like an okay idea but then you have extreme cold and extremely hot parts so the delivery of said cooling solution would be tricky at best. Then there is the fact that dry ice is Co2 in its solid form so when the engine needs some air and it gets a mouthful of carbon dioxide, it would probably throw a tantrum and quit.

Bike oil is pretty expensive. A quart of any regular 30 weight car oil like Chevron Supreme applied with a cotton puff will do fine, and will last you for re-oiling for years.

Bicycle chain oil is specifically designed for chains. It's thin enough to penetrate small areas yet still offers enough viscosity to lubricant parts. The wet has wax in it to protect against water. If it's just sand and dust the dry is better to use. Still in sandy, dusty conditions the bike should be cleaned after your ride for the day.
