Hey guys my phantom 85 has just come thru the break in period so I thought I'd do some jetting of my carburetor due to some 4 stroking issues well the smaller jet was on so tight that I twisted the main key so I have to order another.I was thinking well I have to order anyway maybe get pkway oko carb instead but I don't know how my phantom 85 would run with it sense I dont run a reed valve and I have a after market ms460 piston in it. Any thoughts?

Soulfly, you're a walking disaster. In a good way ya know? If I sold you a brand new Honda Cub you'd be on here the next day asking how to fix something you messed up. God bless you son. I hope you're learning along the way. Enjoy your posts.

It is actually normal for the P-85 to do some four stroking in the upper throttle ranges, especially during the first 315 mile breakin period,

When break in is over, that is when you can adjust the needle valve to lessen some of the 4 stroking.

It is designed to run correctly using the JRL BoFeng carburetor that it comes with, if you have messed it up by screwing around with it lacking knowledge as to how it works, just order another from link below, fortunately they are cheap to buy at only $11.99 at Amazon.

Depending on your altitude/elevation level where you live and how many miles you have on the bike, (Is it still in 315 mile breakin period?), then I can tell you where the needle valve for the carburetor needs to be positioned keeping in mind that a certain amount of 4 stroking is normal and actually helps to keep the motor cooler running as well as extra lubrication for the moving parts.

That's better than some people. It's truly remarkable. You've had so many issues with building your bike that most people would have just given up.
I just don't like to lose,I never have. Also it's been satisfying to find and fix the issues myself that's why more than anything that I dipped out on the forum for a while I'd put some issue on here and get a lot of responses and most of them good but didn't apply to the issue I had at hand inevitably I just had to quiet myself and figure it out and I did. Other than this recent carborator issue I'm having totally my fault it's been running like a top. Any new guys out there your bike most likely is going to be ruff early on in your break in period but gets better and better as it breaks in.

It's the ignition timing on he Phantom that also contributes to the 4 stroking that they do. If you know for sure it's rich, and the needle adjustment on it's leanest setting isn't helping, then yes, maybe step down to a 68 main (small step down) and put the needle in the center slot again to see what effect it has.
