Is there any way to quiet down the gear trains on these engines? mine runs perfect, and the stock exhaust is pretty quiet, but the clutch wheel and drive gear makes a bit of noise. It's quiet for about a mile after adding grease, then starts back. I think that cast cover amplifies it, but I really don't want to run without it. My other motor was very quiet after about 1.5K miles, I suspect the gears wore in with each other?

Does the noise get louder the faster you go? Does it's rhythm change with rpm?

Pull the side cover and inspect the gears, check for uneven wear.

It won't hurt it a bit to take out the gears and clean them off and put a little new grease on them when they go back together. One tiny piece of gear could have broken free and is rolling around it there making extra noise. Cleaning and inspection will tell you if there is any odd marks on the case or cover.

And, be aware that even though the noise sounds like it's coming from the engine, it can be rear wheel or chain related.
