I like foaming chain lube - heavy grease dissolved in a light carrier that gets into plate & roller gaps, then the carrier evaporates leaving the grease inside. Apply after a ride & let sit till it works in, then wipe excess the next morning.
I too use that silly red 'supertech' goop. Mostly because I happen to have a gun full of it just around... because of reasons. It's useful on pretty much anything with moving parts. Kinda like WD40, except it's not total crap that collects a bunch of dirt after hardly lubricating anything at all...
I have thought about experimenting with chain wax and that foaming lube, though. I hear good things about them.
'course if you want to go old school, we used to keep a pot of hot grease next to the tire patch vulcanizer in the back of the shop - heat it a bit more, drop in a chain & in a 1/2 hour it was very well lubed
