Chain link clip position

Ok..here is the way I have been putting the chain link on..the way that the instructions with the kit shows!
A builder friend of mine says the C clip should point to the right
...but over the phone ...how am i to know? face pointing to the right when? when the link is on bottom? or top?
The paper is showing the clip pointing to the left while the link is on bottom...it points to the right when its on top.

Is the paper correct? if so..the lady i sold the bike to had the clip on the way the instructions show..if the paper is wrong..then its still is not my fault .

Anyone have a photo of the correct way the link should be?

When the master link is in the top half of the chain, open end of the clip should face rearward. That's how I remember it and it agrees with your illustration, where the master link is in the bottom half of the chain.
