I don't own one of these so I can't speak about it's quality or value or blah, blah, blah. Just thought I'd share the link. Perhaps someone may want to see if this is useable on the other side of the bike.

That is a good idea for those having trouble getting proper tension on their pedal chain. Like moving a mountain bike to a single speed. I am currently using a 7 speed rear derailuer on a single 22 tooth for chain tensioning needs. If the bike jiggles or I somehow mess with my shifter my chain falls off.
 
I use that on my bike. It works great and I needed it since I swapped out the cog size. The bolt that holds everything together needs loctite or it will fall out.
