The fan is on the starter side, if you ever had the pull start off, then that is the fan you see behind the starter. It blows air up and across the head.
There is a fan there to add a bit of cooling to the oil sump. The main fan is on the ignition/clutch side. These are from the GX31 parts manual.

The oem engine just made it here. Added oil and fuel and it fired on the second pull and runs great

Yeah Staton has a front kit. Its not hard to fab on either. I have built several front drives. The last one was an Echo based weedeater build. Was very easy to do. If you have a lot of hills a bigger engine is a must.
Thanks. My sister will only go a mile or two max in town on it, so a small engine would be more than enough

Example for front drive. If you decide on this make sure you know what engine you're going to buy. Decide what size roller you want, if you want upgraded bearings. Knowing the motor will give you the correct throttle cable. You can order just the kit if you have your own motor in mind.
