I've built a few bikes now already but now I'm having an issue with a new one. I can't seem to get the lever to pull the clutch in enough and the cable is tight. Do I drill another hole closer in and thread the cable through that one or what can I do

Go back to the very beginning of proper clutch adjustment...Here is my tutorial below, it will tell you exactly how to know when it is correctly done.

Is your lever for v brakes or for caliper style rim brakes? The v brake levers pull farther but with less force. There are two standards for pull ratios. Short and long. The long standard was created for v brakes.

If V brake levers still don't have enough travel you can get a problem solvers travel agent. That will increase the amount of cable that gets pulled also. You'll need hercules hands but V brake levers and the travel agent will pull a lot of cable.

He is having clutch issues.
I had that problem with mine when I first built it,I just had to get the cable tighter to engage earlier, been fine ever since.
I was also worried about how hard it was to pull in but that went away quickly after a little use.

Hence why I posted yet again my extremely exacting clutch adjusment instructions to be followed to the letter exactly as written, only to have yet another reader tell me he has done all that already without reading every single word of what I wrote.

The reader usually winds up eating those words when they finally do read EVERYTHING I wrote about on the correct way to do it and then find it was just one small itsy bitsy detail I wrote about that they missed and finally cures their problem all due to short attention span theater...lol.
