I decided to take the bicycles shifting knobs off my bike and needed a tensioner to keep the pedal chain taunt. This is what I did.

I moved the derailer to the axel rod, adjusted the derailer limiter screws and wired up one side. It works good.

Pvc shims will keep your hub mounted gear mount from slipping.

Lmfao, i did the same thing on my cranbrook. Got tired of floppy chain as the motor side stretched and wore in. So i used and old tensioner to pick up the slack. Makes it easier to get the tire off too.

What was wrong with it as a shifter?
Nothing. But my handlebars are so short that it made it hard to fit everything on it correctly.

Im not really worried about having to pedal to far and if I do I can change gears by hand.

You can get an add on bar for around 20 bucks. Put all your nonessential controls and gadgets on it while shifter and brakes go on the handlebars. They are basically two clamps and a tube that attach to your handle bars.
