Disc brake adjustment

What's best procedure for disc brake adjustment? I loosen caliper & put beer box on each side of rotor & hold brake lever tight & then tighten caliper mount. Will this procedure work or is there a better method?

Some pads and calipers come with a shim that goes between the rotor and calipers to set them up. Same idea as your beer box set up.

Beer box, match book, cereal box, etc. or you can go real fancy like I do, bust out the feeler gauges. Pretty much only thing I use them for besides setting the valves on my flat tappit motorcycles.
