Do performance mods improve economy if ridden gently?

I once read rocket impulse write that the phantom 85 makes its power through efficiency.
Yes...Using it the way I do with the power it has, I cruise around at 30 to 35 MPH at 1/4 throttle, thus saving gasoline...That translates to an average of 115 MPG on an 80 to 90 pound bike with my 217 pounds added to that.

Ps...That also includes many times of filling rear baskets with groceries that further adds to the weight.

Power can be made in more than one way. Really well done port designs like those on the stihl Saws, and thus the Phantoms, make more/better power by both being able to flow more air and fuel, but also by how it introduces the intake charge to the combustion chamber during the intake cycle when the transfer ports open, and ensuring less charge goes out the exhaust.

Because of this it is more powerful partly by utilizing more of the intake charge more efficiently, and partly because it can move more air and fuel.

One can also simply throw more air and fuel at an engine and make more power, but it may not be efficient about it.

A great example of this that most people can relate with is an LS1 vs. An old school gen 1 350 small block chevy. Both can be made to make 400hp. The LS1 can do it very easily, and will also get better mileage, even with a carburetor.

It definatly depends on how you control your throttle. My motor is heavily modded, and when I ride im not light on the throttle. my motor will empty a can faster than a toddler on its mothers breast.

Performance mods is a phrase dependent on intention.
For example:
If you're building for a high top end speed and fast acceleration fuel mileage isn't your main concern. Slower speeds probably aren't going to be very comfortable either. What you have is a drag vehicle.

If speed and rapid acceleration isn't your main concern, you can do Performance mods to boost economy and mileage. Lower speeds will also generally be more comfortable.

In my car I have an MPG display. On the highways if I'm not in a hurry and nobody is behind me, I can lower my speed by 10 mph under the speed limit and the mpg can go up as much 10 mpg more.
